The endeavours of the police in Gauteng to fight the proliferation of illegal firearms continue to produce positive results as over 350 various firearms including 2443 various assorted rounds of ammunition were removed from the streets of Gauteng for the past two weeks
Most of the firearms were recovered during on-going crime prevention operations, stop and searches and through tip-offs received from members of the community.
These firearms are believed to be used in the commission of serious and violent crimes and they will be subjected to ballistic testing.
The Provincial Commissioner of Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has commended the police and law enforcement agencies for their concerted efforts in fighting crime in the province, especially serious and violent crimes.
He also appreciated the community members for reporting criminal activities and sharing tip-offs with the police.
