In an intelligence-driven operation and with cooperation from the community, the police in Gauteng have arrested two suspects linked to the killing of five people between the 03 and 04 February 2017, after a group of armed suspects went on a shooting spree in the Olievenhoutbosch policing area.

In a closely related incident, police responded to a complaint of apparent mob justice in Olievenhoutbosch Extension 26, and found the body of a man next to the road with wounds to the upper body. The deceased has since been confirmed as the third suspect wanted in connection with the Olievenhoutbosch shooting.

Police are also investigating cases of attempted murder and business robberies.

It is alleged that the suspects started shooting randomly at people in the streets and at patrons in a number of taverns in the area. Five people died during the shooting, four were wounded and hospitalised, and a number of patrons were robbed of their belongings at gunpoint. Some equipment from the taverns has been reported stolen.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange, commended the police on the sterling work that resulted in the swift arrest of the suspects. The SAPS is monitoring the area and investigations continue.

While the police appreciate all efforts and cooperation of the communities, they are requested to report any possible suspect/s to the nearest police station.
