Two men have been injured yesterday morning, one seriously, after an apparent shooting incident on the M1 highway, on the Woodmead turn-off, in Woodmead.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found law enforcement and security forces already in attendance.

Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a bakkie on the middle of the road while a truck had come to a stop a short distance away.

One man was found lying next to his bakkie, being treated by another service, while the driver of the truck was walking around on the scene.

Paramedics immediately assessed the man near the bakkie and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was in a serious condition. The man was treated for his injuries and provided with several, advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the man was transported to a private hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have sustained a gunshot wound to his upper arm. He was treated and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital.

It is understood that an unknown number of gunmen had opened for on the bakkie, injuring the one man. The driver of the truck was apparently caught in the crossfire.

Local authorities are on the scene to investigate the details of this incident.
