Following the arrest of two men, suspected to be part of a truck hijacking gang, police are confident that four other suspects travelling in vehicles fitted with blue lights will be arrested soon. This follows after hi-tech televisions ranging from 40 cm to 126 cm screens were recovered at a business plot in Glen Austin, Midrand on 1 April 2019, at midday.

Cases of truck hijacking and possession of suspected stolen goods (television and a truck) are being investigated. Two suspects who were arrested are due to appear at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours.

The truck was intercepted by the members of the Johannesburg Metro Police at Glen Austin after it had been hijacked in Kempton Park policing area. As members of the SAPS backed them up, the suspect who was driving the truck was questioned and he pointed out the premises where the goods were off-loaded.

More than 70 television sets were found on the premises still in boxes. Police have taken over the investigation and are following up on several leads to recover goods that are still missing and the suspects who are still at large.

Police are also appealing to anyone who may have information about the whereabouts of the suspects and the other stolen goods to contact the nearest police station or contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours.

The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mawela, has applauded the co-operation of the law enforcement agencies in dealing with criminal activities and making sure that those who are responsible are brought to book.
