According to Emergency services over 50 houses have been damaged after a tornado ripped through Ennerdale extension eight, south of Johannesburg, on Monday night.
A warning of heavy storms and damaging winds in the area was issued by the South African Weather Services early on Monday morning.
The extent of the damage is not known and Johannesburg emergency services will return to the area this morning to access the damage caused.
There are reports that at least one person has been injured during the severe weather conditions and hundreds displaced.
