The Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to Tiffany Meek, the 31-year-old mother accused of murdering her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek, in Fleurhof earlier this year. Meek also faces charges of obstructing and defeating the ends of justice.

State Confident in Case

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane stated that the state is confident in its case against Meek, citing strong circumstantial evidence. “With the evidential material we have so far, we believe there are prospects of a successful prosecution,” Mjonondwane said.

The court found Meek dishonest in her statements, raising concerns that she could interfere with the investigation or influence witnesses if released. The case has been postponed to 17 September 2025 to allow investigators to finalize outstanding evidence, including witness statements and forensic reports.

Defense Maintains Innocence

Meek’s defense attorney argued that she is innocent and that the real killer remains at large. “She feels betrayed. She hasn’t even had time to mourn her son’s death,” the attorney said, expressing concerns over Meek’s safety in prison. The defense is considering filing a new bail application or appealing the decision.

Community and Police Reaction

Police officials, including General Fred Kekana, commended the investigating team’s work and dismissed defense claims of evidence tampering. Community members, who had previously criticized the investigation, were present in court, showing support for the legal process.

As the case heads toward trial, both sides remain firm in their positions—the state confident in its evidence, while Meek’s family insists on her innocence and vows to continue fighting for justice.
