Three people accused of hijacking a vehicle were being treated in hospital under police guard after a shoot-out with Gauteng police in Diepsloot, north of Johannesburg on Thursday.

Police spokesman Captain Kay Makhubela said police spotted the Toyota Hilux along the N14 in Diepsloot.

“When police approached the vehicle, a shoot-out between suspects and the police ensued. The suspects were shot at and lost control of their vehicle which led to their arrest. They were taken to hospital under police guard,” said Makhubela.

He said the vehicle was hijacked in Vosman, Mpumalanga. Two unlicensed firearms, a set of blue lights and handcuffs were discovered in the vehicle.
