Six suspects pounced on a female motorist driving alone in the Johannesburg CBD yesterday. The suspects smashed her window when she was stuck in traffic between cars. The suspects were quick, organized and robbed her within minutes.
Apparently, this appears to be a regular occurrence nowadays.
A commuter said that bus lanes have become a nuisance. they create the problem. Firstly taxis, just stop, thus you have traffic, you then have to squeeze one’s car between a taxi that is in the middle of nowhere and those yellow bus ramps on the road. In addition, you then have have pedestrians walking, thus there is no room to move.
Practice situational awareness – Be alert to loiterers and maintain a following distance. If possible approach red traffic lights slowly so as to prevent coming to a total stop.
Citizens have written to Herman Mashaba, Democratic Mayor of Johannesburg and asked him to step up police or security visibility in the Johannesburg CBD. Some want to know what happened to good old fashioned public policing foot patrols.
