Two men aged 31 and 45 are expected to appear in court soon, facing charges of theft of motor vehicle, possession of car-breaking implements, possession of signal blocking device and possession of stolen property.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday 24 May 2023 during a transitional multidisciplinary operation led by the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section (TOMS), Gauteng SAPS Highway Patrol assisted by Tracker Connect, GTP Saturation Unit, GTP Chopper, FRS Falcon Risk Solutions, ICB-Insurance Crime Bureau, MDOC CI CIT Team and Badboyz Security.

The information of a group of suspects who were involved in hijacking and stealing of Toyota vehicles using a VW Polo was received and operationalised.

The vehicle fitting the provided description was spotted in Pretoria West following a Toyota Yaris that had been stolen in Brooklyn.

The suspects were cornered where one of the suspects was arrested while driving the stolen Toyota Yaris whereas the suspect who was driving a VW Polo sped off to a shopping mall in Atteridgeville where he was apprehended with the assistance of the Gauteng Traffic Police chopper.

The one suspect had a warrant of arrest against him on charges of attempted murder on police, possession of unlicensed firearm, armed robbery and hijacking that occurred in the Akasia policing area in 2021.

Both suspects will be profiled to ascertain if they can be linked to other cases and further arrests cannot be ruled out as the investigation is continuing.
