A 15-year-old girl from Horison, Johannesburg, has died following a devastating collision between a quad bike and a car near Westgate Mall in Roodepoort. The accident occurred just after midday on Wednesday at the intersection of Swart Avenue and Andries De Bruyn Street.
According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), the crash involved a vehicle with two occupants and a quad bike carrying two teenagers. Tragically, the young girl on the bike was pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the other teenager and the car occupants remains unclear at this stage.
Calls for Urgent Road Safety Measures
Local residents have expressed frustration over the dangerous intersection, describing it as a recurring accident hotspot. One community member revealed that collisions occur “probably twice a week” and pleaded with authorities to take action.
“This intersection has been a problem for us for quite some time,” the resident said. “We’ve asked JMPD to assist us here, maybe put up speed bumps to stop all of these accidents. We really need JMPD to do something about this.”
The resident emphasized that the lack of intervention has led to preventable tragedies. “The reason we raised this concern is to try and prevent things like this from happening. Every time, there’s a possibility someone could lose their life because of this intersection, and JMPD is not taking it seriously.”

The fatal crash has reignited calls for immediate road safety improvements in the area. Community members are demanding speed-calming measures, increased traffic enforcement, or structural changes to the intersection to prevent further loss of life.
