According to the Gauteng Education Department, more than 30 000 Gauteng teachers were absent from work.
Of the 31 713 absent teachers, 110 were absent without leave.
Most absenteeisms occurred in Johannesburg, Gauteng North, and the East Rand.
Apparently, action will be taken against the 110 teachers who are absent without leave.
Principals and teachers are not held responsible for their actions leading to disruption in schools and the non-completion of curricula.
The ridiculousness is that the union Naptosa, through their spokesman Basil Manuel, said teachers are overworked and that schools that are overcrowded leads to absence of teachers.
The names of the schools were not mentioned, making it difficult to determine where the problems are encountered.
