16 people have been injured, three of them critically, after a taxi rolled on the N12 east-bound in Putfontein, east of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene and found the taxi upright in the fast lane of the highway. The occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and were found lying across the scene.

Upon assessment, paramedics found that 16 people had been injured in this incident, three of them critically. The remaining 13 patients had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, the patients were transported to hospitals nearby for further treatment.

It is believed that the tyre had apparently burst, causing the vehicle to roll and eject its occupants.

Local authorities will be investigating further.
