Taxi driver hijacked, two suspects arrested, Tembisa

During the early hours of this morning, 18 May 2018, at about 01:30 SAPS Norkem Park Sector Members arrested two male suspects in possession of hijacked motor vehicle at Plataan Street, Edleen.

The two police officers who were busy with their patrols spotted a white Toyota Corolla with two occupants.

The car looked suspicious to members as it chased off at high speed after noticing the police van. A chase ensued from Van Riebeeck Park. At Plataan Street, Edleen the officers managed to corner the two suspects after they stopped their car.

Upon police officers searching the suspects and their car (white Toyota Corolla), the suspects were found in possession of a toy gun, pairs of hand gloves, reflector jackets and a back seat full of clothes.

Furthermore, when police checked the status of the car, it was found reported hijacked in Tembisa during the month of February 2018.

The victim, a taxi driver alleged that on 17 February 2018, at about 23:23 he was called for pick up around Tembisa to Hospital view. He picked up two male clients and along Stanza Bopape Street, the two passengers pointed the driver with a firearm and robbed him his car, cell phones, bank cards and Cash. He further alleged they drove with him up until dropping him at Daveyton area.

The police investigation will continue to establish if arrested suspects are not linked to other crimes around the Cluster.

The arrested suspects will appear at Kempton Park Magistrate Court soon.
