Major disruptions occurred this morning on highways around Pretoria, Johannesburg, as well as the East and West Rand.

Taxis had already announced their protest action for today because they are dissatisfied with the “capitalization” of the industry. Earlier, they demanded Toyota to lower their new minibus vehicle price by R100 000.

Now banks’ head offices are also in their vision, and they also planning marches.

The taxi industry apparently got permission for today’s march, while the relevant authorities should have been aware of the massive disruption that it would cause. Nevertheless, they have been careful and rather promoted the interests of the taxis, than those of motorists who are on the roads to keep the economy going.
