Police in Tshwane District followed up on information regarding suspects involved in the shooting of a member from the SAPS Task Force on Monday, 18 January 2021, where a state vehicle was reportedly also hijacked. The vehicle was later recovered by security guards who notified the police.

A team made up of Tshwane Tactical Response Team and Mamelodi East Sector members operationalised information and proceeded to the location of the suspects and conducted a search on 20 January 2021, in Mamelodi.

During the operation, four suspects were arrested and three illegal firearms with ammunition were seized on suspicion of having been used during the commission of the hijacking and attempted murder. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether they could be linked to other crimes committed.

At the moment, the suspects are facing a charge of car hijacking, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate Court soon.
