Suspects arrested in Alberton for tampering with essential infrastructure

On Wednesday 10 January 2024 at 00:30, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Cable Theft Task Team Officers, in conjunction with other stakeholders, arrested six (6) suspects in the Alberton area, for tampering with essential infrastructure.

Responding to a complaint of cable theft in progress from one of the stakeholders, at the EMPD Stores located on Swartkoppies Road. Upon arrival on the scene, officers found six suspects in action, digging a trench. All male suspects, between the ages of 26 and 44 years, were arrested and a cable worth R100 000 was confiscated.

The lawbreakers were taken to the Alberton police station, facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure, and are expected to appear at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
