Suspected Human Trafficking Victims Rescued in Laezonia

In an operation involving Diepsloot SAPS, Olivenhoutbosch Operational Commander, Erasmia SAPS and Gauteng Traffic Air Wing.

Crime Intelligence – Erasmia Station, SAPS Flying Squad, Doornranjie and Laezonia SSF, Vision Tactical and several security companies, authorities responded to a call reporting a group of individuals running through the Laezonia area.

Initial assumptions identified them as trespassers; however, it became apparent that these individuals were likely victims of a human trafficking operation.

Thirteen males, aged between 16 and 30, were found to be severely malnourished, in need of urgent medical care.

Further searches of the surrounding area uncovered an additional 16 victims, bringing the total number of rescued individuals to 29. Immediate medical assistance was administered on scene while awaiting emergency services to transport the victims to healthcare facilities for continued care.

Preliminary information from family members suggests that some of the victims may have been held captive for up to eight months. Investigations into the exact circumstances, including the location of captivity and the identity of perpetrators, are ongoing. The case is under further investigation.
