A JMPD officer patrolling the Meadowlands area in Soweto received a radio alert about a hijacked vehicle. The officer observed a suspicious silver Jeep motor vehicle travelling at excessive speeds and immediately gave chase.
The suspect vehicle was also being pursued by SAPS officers from Roodepoort.
The chase ended in a collision, resulting in the suspect vehicle rolling over and striking three pedestrians and a stationary vehicle.
Two pedestrians sustained slight injuries, and one sustained serious injuries. The driver of the stationary vehicle sustained injuries and was taken to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
The male suspect was arrested and detained at Meadowlands SAPS on charges of possession of a hijacked vehicle and reckless and negligent driving.
The hijacked vehicle was seized and booked to the SAPS Lenasia vehicle pound.
