The Randburg Magistrates’ Court convicted Prince Mubaiwa who was employed at Spur restaurant for fraud, identity theft and contravention of Immigration Act. During the national state of disaster (COVID19), the accused applied for the UIF temporary employer/employee relief scheme. The application was submitted by his employer on his behalf, using the fraudulent identity document and he benefited an amount of R7 594.64.

The Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation team conducted an investigation and it was discovered that the suspect is a foreign national, who was employed at Spur restaurant in Rosebank as a Manager using a South African stolen identity document. The warrant of arrest was issued against him and it was executed whereby the accused was apprehended at his workplace in Rosebank on 26 November 2022.

Mubaiwa appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on 28 November 2022 and on 19 October 2023 he appeared again where he was found guilty of identity theft, fraud and Contravention of Immigration Act. The matter was postponed to 26 November 2023 for sentencing.
