Three suspects aged 26, 36 and 37 years will be making their first appearance in court soon following their arrest in a multidisciplinary tracing operation by the operational team comprising of the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section, Ekurhuleni SAPS District Trio Task team, SAPS Benoni Vehicle Crime Investigation, Tracker Connect, Badboyz Security and ICB-Insurance Crime Bureau yesterday, 13 July 2023 in Tsakane, East Rand.
It is reported that information was received that a group of suspects were in possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles in Tsakane.
The information was operationalised and an observation was held at the identified premises.
Whilst the team was observing, a Ford Ranger departed the premises and the team tactically contained it.
A suspect was arrested and the vehicle checked. It was discovered that the Ford Ranger was being sought as a case opened in Sophiatown.
Further search of the vehicle resulted in an unlicensed firearm and ammunition being found. The team proceeded to search the premises wherein two more suspects were apprehended and four more sought vehicles including a Hyundai H1, BMW, VW Golf 5, Nissan Truck, assortment of unlicensed ammunition, various sought registration plates, vehicle registration documents and multiple cellphones were seized.
The suspects will be facing several charges of possession of suspected stolen/hijacked motor vehicles, possession of registration papers belonging to stolen motor vehicles, possession of unlicensed firearm and illegal ammunition when appearing in Tsakane Magistrates’ court.
