Black residents in the Glen Ridge suburb of Soweto cut off roads to prevent illegal black land grabbers from erecting their huts in the area.
Residents fear that if a squatter camp is erected, their properties will decrease in value. Interestingly, they also remarked: “Where will they get water and power, they will steal it from us”.
Police dispersed the protesters on Monday afternoon 7 May 2108, with rubber bullets.
