Two suspects linked to house robberies and thefts that occurred for the past weeks in Lynwood Ridge area were arrested following a shoot-out.

It is reported that, following a spate of house robberies and theft in that area, the police together with private security companies through the ‘Eyes and Ears’ (E2) project conducted operations which led to the arrest of the duo and recovery of some of the suspected stolen property.

On 23 May 2023, while the team was following up on information, the suspects were spotted and when approached they started shooting at the members who returned fire. Both suspects sustained injuries in the process and were taken to a local hospital under police guard.

A revolver and live ammunition were also seized.

Preliminary investigations, led the team to a premises in Mamelodi where property, possibly stolen in recent house breakings and robberies were recovered including televisions, speakers, laptop, smart watches and cellphones.

Both suspects are still in hospital and are expected to appear before a Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela has praised the team for the partnership that yielded positive results and also thanked the community members for their continued support in the fight against crime through reporting crime and giving tip-offs that lead to arrests
