PRETORIA — The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) is issuing a final appeal to eligible South Africans to complete their voter registration before the 5:00 pm deadline, marking the last opportunity to register ahead of the November local government elections.
The final registration weekend has commenced on a strong footing, with more than 99% of the 23,699 registration stations across the country opening promptly at 8:00 am. This critical weekend brings the nation closer to concluding in-person voter registration for the upcoming electoral cycle.
An Electoral Commission spokesperson emphasized the urgency of the current window, noting that the commission had already interacted with over 238,000 citizens by 12:00 pm through both physical registration stations and the online portal.
“We wish to remind all eligible voters that there will not be another opportunity for voting-based registration,” the Electoral Commission spokesperson stated.
Voters are strongly urged to utilize the remaining hours today and tomorrow to register, verify, and update their personal information, ensuring their details are accurately captured on the official voters’ roll. The registration stations will remain open until 5:00 pm today and will reopen at 8:00 am tomorrow for the final day of the drive.
This final push follows a highly successful first voter registration weekend in June, which recorded more than three million registrations nationwide, signaling robust civic engagement ahead of the local government elections.
