Shop owner shot and killed in attempted business robbery

Police in Gauteng are investigating attempted business robbery and murder cases following an attack on Wednesday, 1 March 2017, by armed men at a shop in Hilbrow

It is alleged that two men entered the Roma Italia shop and pointed a firearm at the people inside. It is reported that one of the employees drew a gun and returned fire, forcing the suspects to retreat.

According to a witness, the owner of the shop was shot by the suspects on their way out of the shop. The shop owner sustained injuries to his upper body and was taken to hospital, where he was certified dead.

It is estimated that about four suspects fled the scene in a white Ford Ranger, registration unknown.

Nothing was taken from the shop.
