Five suspects were arrested on 15 February 2022, for possession of suspected stolen vehicle and possession of car theft implements.

The members of Vanderbijlpark Task Team received a complaint of suspicious vehicle with occupants trying to steal a bakkie at Carter Street in Vanderbijlpark.

The members chased the said vehicle with the assistance of patrollers. The chase ensued until Sharpeville policing precinct where members blocked the alleged vehicle and suspects started running on foot to an open field.

A shooting between suspects and the members ensued and one suspect was shot on the leg while four other suspects surrendered. Paramedics attended to the injured suspect and was handed back to the Police.

All five arrested suspects aged between 30 and 45 years are expected to appear before Vanderbijlpark Magistrates’ Court soon on charges of possession of suspected stolen vehicle and car breaking implements.
