Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting near the Steve Biko hospital in Johannesburg on Wednesday 5 August 2020. At least two police officers and as well as two suspects had been shot in an exchange of gunfire. Multiple other suspected persons as well as officers were injured during the shootout.

There are fears that several other people people may have been wounded and or killed after being caught in the crossfire.

The two police officers were treated on scene by Netcare 911 Emergency Care Practitioners as well as Medics from other services.

Due to the nature of both their injuries two Netcare 911 Helicopter ambulances were activated to airlift them to specialist facilities.

Once treated all the injured were transported by various ambulance services to hospital for further treatment.
