A security guard has been shot dead in Mashiloane Road in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, ER24 said in a statement on Thursday.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics found the guard lying on the side of the road.
“On assessment, paramedics found that the man had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Unfortunately the man had already succumbed to his injuries prior to the arrival of paramedics. Nothing more could be done for the man and he was declared dead on scene,” Meiring said.
Information gathered so far indicates that two security guards were guarding a generator when they they were accosted by gunmen. One guard went off to raise the alarm while the other one fought off the gunmen until he was shot dead.
The South African Police Service is looking into the shooting, but it was not immediately clear is there were any arrests.
