GAUTENG — Authorities have arrested a second suspect in connection with the Reiger Park murders that recently claimed the lives of two South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Gang Unit members and two local women. The breakthrough highlights the critical role of civilian cooperation in dismantling violent gang networks.
The 24-year-old male was apprehended on Monday afternoon following an intensive manhunt. The operation was executed by a multidisciplinary task force comprising the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks), the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD), the Flying Squad, and the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit.
Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane praised the joint tactical effort but reserved her highest commendation for the residents of Reiger Park. According to Dimpane, the arrest serves as a testament to a neighborhood refusing to be intimidated by criminal elements.
“This arrest is not only a victory for SAPS; it is also a demonstration of the power of a community that refuses to be silenced by criminals,” Dimpane stated, thanking locals for their courage in coming forward. She emphasized that civilian intelligence is a vital catalyst for moving complex gang-related investigations forward and urged residents to maintain their partnership with law enforcement.
The successful apprehension arrives during a period of national mourning for the fallen officers. Constable Thapelo Tlomatsane was laid to rest on Monday in Limpopo, following the Saturday, 15 August 2026, funeral of his colleague, Constable Sphiwe Sibeko.
With this latest apprehension, two individuals are now in police custody regarding the quadruple homicide. The first suspect, 23-year-old Reagan Collis, recently appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court facing four counts of murder. Collis was remanded in custody, and his formal bail application is docketed for 25 August 2026. The newly arrested 24-year-old is scheduled to make his first court appearance at the same Boksburg venue later this week.
