In line with the South African Police Service (SAPS)’s turnaround Strategy which seeks to transform it into a professional and capable organisation, the SAPS will launch an Anti Corruption Strategy at the SAPS Academy Tshwane today, 29 June 2018.
The launch resembles the commitment of the management of the SAPS toward enhancing its ethics and Code of Conduct, and the curbing of corruption within the organisation.
This includes enhancing and supporting the implemented strategies dealing with corruption, which might lead to poor and ineffective management of State resources, as well as the impairment of the quality of service rendered to the public.
The SAPS has aligned all its initiatives with the prescripts of government, such as Chapter 2 of the Public Service Regulations, 2016 by implementing the SAPS Employment Regulations, 2017 − to specifically address issues pertaining to the requirements for the financial declaration by the managers of the SAPS and other high risk categories of employees, such as the Finance and Supply Chain environments.
The disclosure framework is supplemented with the implementation of integrity assessments, vetting as well as lifestyle audits.
The launch of the strategy coincides with Africa Public Service Month, which is annually celebrated in the month of June. The reason for the integration is that the theme for Public Service Month’s celebrations 2018 is: Winning the fight against Corruption. A sustainable path to African Public Sector Transformation.
The launch will be attended by the Minister of Police, Minister Bheki Cele as well as by senior management of the SAPS.
