SANBI brings the Chelsea Flower Show Display to Garden World

Coming back from Chelsea Flower Show in London, the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) is looking forward to bring the replica display of the winning exhibit at the Garden World, on the 27th of July 2017.

“This will give South Africans an opportunity to see the Chelsea Flower Show exhibit that won SANBI gold and the President’s award” says Lihle Dlamini, Marketing and Communication Director at SANBI.

The aim of the Spring Festival is to inspire the general public to enhance the environment & reduce the carbon footprint, this is done by presenting ideas that are livable & practical.

The show at Garden World brings the proudly South African vision to life, capturing styles & influences of South African garden design & from abroad. This promotion will again reflect strong environmental awareness that allows us to demonstrate the intrinsic & diverse South African image, both exotic & indigenous promoting ‘GREEN’. Rand Water will again be on board for 2017 & will promote their ‘Water Wise’ campaign.

The designer show gardens will be designed & constructed by Environmental Students of UNISA & Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) as part of their practical training and is supported by Agri-Seta and is part of our Skills Development program, also top landscapers in the green industry,  Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden as well as North West University. The environmental students under the guidance of their respective lecturers have been involved in our Spring Festivals since 1998, an important opportunity for them to gain practical experience by competing with other students, qualified horticulturists & professional landscapers.

For 22 years, Garden World has hosted an Annual Spring Festival and it is officially opened with key role players in the green industry, the media as well as dignitaries from Government, SA Tourism & Rand Water in attendance.

South Africa has participated as an international exhibitor at the world’s most prestigious flower show – the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show in London (the Floral Olympics) – for the past 43 years & won 35 Gold Medals, 3 Silver Gilt Medals & 3 Silver Medals as well as numerous other special awards for outstanding contributions.

The SA Chelsea Exhibits have been re-created at Garden World’s Annual Spring Festivals since 2003, this will be the 15th year at Garden World. This gives South Africans home ground advantage to see SANBI’s magnificent Chelsea Flower Show exhibit here in Gauteng, inspiring them to be sensitive to the environment.
