Rock thrown at four-year-old in attempted hijacking
Metro Police' hijack vehicles in West Rand

An attempted hijacking or smash and grab last night in Kempton Park, ended in trauma when a four-year-old boy was hit on the head by a rock flung through the window of the car.

The child, Daniel Fleetwood, had seven stitches in the back of his head and pieces of glass removed. The doctors did a brain scan and fortunately, there is no brain damage.

The mother of the child, Jacqueline, also incurred minor injuries in the surprise attack.

The family was visiting Nolan’s parents in Pomona to celebrate the birthday of his mother. Three men attempted to hijack the family car at the intersection of Great North and Dann Roads, behind Avion Park. While traveling home, he stopped behind a car at a red traffic light. Nolan saw a man approach his vehicle from behind and without any warning; the man threw a rock, that was placed in a plastic bag through the front passenger window. The rock hit both his wife and young son on the head.

Another suspect tried to break the window on the driver’s side in the same way but was unsuccessful. The third suspect tried to climb onto the back of the double-cab. At this moment, the intensity of being attacked caused Nolen to take action. The car was in first gear but he could not move forward and drove over an island to get his family away from danger. He then called for help.

Nolan warns drivers to be vigilant and stay aware of lurking danger.
