Robbery suspect arrested in Molapo

GAUTENG – On Monday, 27 January 2020, at about 23:15, members of Crime Prevention Unit received a complaint of a robbery in progress at Lebari Street Molapo.

Four suspects targeted a chicken dust business and robbed the complainants of an undisclosed amount of cash, and their cellphones.

When the police arrived, they spotted the four suspects next to a certain house at Molapo and the police approached them and the suspects started to shoot at the police.

The police retaliated resulting in one suspect aged 23 fatally shot. Police recovered one unlicensed 9mm firearm with 14 rounds of ammunition including one cellphone belonging to the complainant from the suspect.

The second suspect was also arrested at the scene. The police recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition including one cellphone belonging to the complainant. When the police conducted a body search of the suspect, a cellphone and a wallet belonging to one of the customers who were also robbed were recovered.

The suspect was then detained at Moroka Police Station and he will appear before the Protea Magistrate’s Court on 29 January 2020. He will be facing charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
