The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, welcomes the arrest of two suspects aged 30 and 35 respectively who are linked to a business robbery and murder case of Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officer, Constable Makhubu. Constable Makhubu was brutally killed during a robbery at a Selcourt Engen Garage in Springs on Tuesday night 13 February 2018.

The suspects were arrested through a Crime Intelligence driven operations at Lindelani informal settlement in Kwa-Thema on Wednesday afternoon. During the operation, police recovered an AK47 rifle, 9mm pistol, two AK47 magazines, 9mm ammunition, explosives, coins presumed stolen, false number plates and cigarettes.

“I commend the police officers who worked around the clock to ensure that perpetrators of this heinous crime are arrested and brought to book. This demonstrates our unwavering war on the brutal killings of our Law Enforcement Officers. I appeal to the criminal justice system to expedite this case and impose harsher sentence to these perpetrators. This will send a strong message that Gauteng has no place for criminals.

I also appeal to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of the remaining suspects to report to the authorities,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
