A man was fatally shot during a foiled planned robbery in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni on Thursday 14 February 2019 at approximately 21:20. Police recovered two firearms that were allegedly robbed from a police officer the previous day.

Members from the Visible Policing Unit in Ekurhuleni were conducting routine patrols when they noticed about five men who looked suspicious standing outside a supermarket in Tsakane.

Upon approaching the suspects, one of them allegedly pulled out a firearm and pointed at the police. Police fired a shot and the suspect was fatally wounded. Preliminary investigation reveals that the recovered firearms were robbed from a police officer in Kwa-Thema the previous day.

The Provincial Commissioner of the police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela, applauded the police officers for applying the 72-hour Activation Plan to ensure that firearms robbed from the police are recovered.

Police have launched a manhunt for the remaining suspects believed to be behind the robberies and other serious and violent crimes in Ekurhuleni and the surroundings.
