Police in Gauteng have arrested three men, aged between 17 and 21, who are suspected to be part of the gangs that are terrorizing the community of Westbury.

It is alleged that six men suspected to be members of rival gangs were involved in a shootout in Westbury on Monday the 28 November 2022 at approximately 12:15, when a 54-year-old woman was hit by a stray bullet as she was walking out of her house.

The victim was rushed to the local medical care center where she is in stable condition.

Police responded swiftly to the shooting incident and followed up on leads that resulted in the arrest of three of the suspects.

Police have opened a case of attempted murder and are still searching for the other suspects and firearms used.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court in due course.
