A 32-year-old man is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 23 March on charges of fraud and theft.

Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Pretoria received intelligence from the Banks Forensic Investigation team on suspicions of fraud related electronic transactions at a Midstream Estate restaurant in Olifantsfontein from January this year.

Investigation revealed that the restaurant’s waiter allegedly duplicated the clients’ bank cards details to purchase goods at local retailers in Gauteng which brought about clients’ loss of approximately R50 600, collectively.

During his apprehension on Thursday, police found card skimming device and receipts in his possession with pin numbers to the alleged cloned clients’ bank cards.

Investigation continues on this matter.
