A 59-year-old accused was sentenced in the Booysens Magistrates’ Court on 22 March 2022, to 23 years’ imprisonment for rape and sexual assault. His name will be registered in the National Register of Sexual Offenders and he is also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The accused raped and sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl at Glenesk (Moffatview area) from January 2015 until 11 July 2015.

He perpetrated these acts on numerous occasions and threatened to kill her if she tells anyone. On 11 July 2015, the matter was brought to the attention of the mother of the victim who then reported it to the police.

He was apprehended on 15 February 2016.

This harsh conviction is as a result of diligent work done by the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Pule Masedi of Johannesburg Central Family Violence Sexual Offenses Unit (FCS).

We welcome the sentence that was handed down and trust that it will serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
