The FF Plus requested the Mayor of the Rand West City Local Municipality (Randfontein and Westonaria), Gladys Khoza, to ensure that the payment agreement between the Municipality and the Gauteng Department of Transport is honoured to prevent problems, like a lack of special paper at the Randfontein licensing office.

This office had to close once again because the Municipality failed to honour its agreement to pay all monies received for the issuing of vehicle licences to the Department.

In the past, the Rand West City Municipality, which acts as an agent for the Department, was allowed to retain 20% of the revenue.

The Municipality, however, frequently breached the agreement by not paying the money owed to the Department.

A new agreement was then concluded between the relevant parties, but the Municipality failed to honour that agreement as well.

As a result of the Municipality’s non-payment, vehicle owners have no choice but to drive around with expired licences, car dealers’ transactions are delayed, licensing office staff cannot work, and the entire process of issuing licences is falling behind.

The ANC’s mismanagement is causing the Municipality to decline financially, at the expense of residents and service delivery.

Rand West City residents deserve better than the ANC.
