A 52-years-old man is expected to appear in the Kempton Park Regional court on 17 February 2022, facing charges of dealing in drugs, drugs and drug trafficking Act, and contravention of the customs and excise Act.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation in Germiston received intelligence from the Border Movement Control at OR Tambo International Airport about a convicted drug mule who was reported to have been travelling to India through Dubai with an Emirates flight.

Authorities established that the ex-offender was found guilty on a count of fraud and sentenced to 5 years imprisonment which was wholly suspended for 5 years on conditions that he is not found guilty of the same offence.

Upon arrival, the investigation team positively identified and linked the ex-offender with a similar incident that occurred in March 2020 at the same premises.

Authorities searched both the accused and his luggage while detained for questioning.

Police recovered 5,4 kilograms of suspected heroine inside a secret compartment of his luggage, concealed with black plastic bags with an estimated street value of R4 million.

The ex-offender was immediately arrested and charged. He is expected to appear in court and the investigation continues.
