Alleged protest action, which in essence is nothing but criminal riots, has also occurred elsewhere in the country.
The residents of the Gomora squatter camp near Hercules in Pretoria began violent protests, for better services.
Van der Hoff Road was blocked early on Thursday morning with the traditional burning of tires and pelting of stones. Four vehicles were burned, as well as power pylons. Homeowners, who have nothing to do with any service delivery, had their fences broken down and windows damaged by stones. No report of any arrest has been received.
In North West, the road between Carletonville and Welverdiend has already being blocked since yesterday with stones after protests started in that area. The traffic police redirect traffic while the police stand back and “watch the situation,” instead of restoring law and order.
