At 11:53 on Sunday morning 19 May 2019, Netcare 911 responded to reports of a aircraft crash at a private airfield off the R515 in Rayton, Pretoria East.

Reports from the scene indicate that a light aircraft with two adult males one 52 years old and the other 47 year old, an instructor and student came down after an apparent engine failure and caught alight.

Paramedics assessed the scene and found that the 47 year old Instructor had sustained critical injuries in the crash and required Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise him.

The 52 year old male student sustained very minor injuries, he was assessed however declined ambulance transportation to hospital.

Once treated the critically injured patient was rushed to hospital for further treatment.

Circumstances leading up to the incident will be investigated by the SAPS.
