A substation of City Power in Eikenhof, south of Johannesburg, has been on fire, causing power cuts in Naturena, Kibler Park, Alved, Rand Water, Eikenhof and Logharin.
The Johannesburg jail is also without power.
According to the pictures, there will be little left of the substation even after the fire has been extinguished, and it is uncertain how long the areas will have to cope without electricity.
Apparently lack of maintenance is the reason for the fire.
Parts of Central Transvaal and the Western Transvaal will be without water due to the explosion of the sub power station in Eikenhof.
