Members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad intercepted a black BMW X5 on Friday, linked to an attempted truck hijacking in Sandton. The vehicle, which had been flagged in a police lookout, was spotted in Kaalfontein, leading to a high-speed pursuit that ended in Midrand when the suspects abandoned the car and fled on foot.
Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered two firearms with loaded magazines, blue emergency lights, and an SAPS reflector jacket. Preliminary investigations revealed that the BMW X5 had been hijacked in Germiston in July, while one of the recovered firearms was reported stolen in Ivory Park.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects, who remain at large. Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
