The FF Plus has requested the Gauteng Police Commissioner, Lt.-Gen. Elias Mawela, to urgently launch an investigation into the conduct of the Midvaal Traffic Department and the Ekurhuleni Metro Police (EMPD) during a recent raid of a general dealer in Meyerton.

The FF Plus also asked the Ekurhuleni Metro Council’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Safety, Thlogi Moseki, to have the Metro investigate the involvement of the EMPD in the raid in the Midvaal Local Municipality.

The owner of the said business approached the FF Plus for assistance after the incident.

The FF Plus wants to know, among other things, why the local police commander in Midvaal was not informed of the planned raid and why the seized goods were taken to the EMPD’s offices in Boksburg.

According to the owner, all the items were knocked off the shelves, thrown into 19 plastic bags and then loaded into a Metro Police vehicle. The owner also alleges that racist remarks were made towards them.

Although the owner presented invoices for the procurement of the stock to the officers, they proceeded to seize the goods. In addition, the owner was not provided with a list of the seized items.

The FF Plus is not satisfied with the procedures followed during the raid and any allegations of racism are unacceptable.

The EMPD has no jurisdiction in Midvaal, so it must be determined whether these officers’ conduct was irregular.

If so, they must be duly investigated and an official complaint must be filed against them.
