Effective policing and community partnership lead to the arrest of four male suspects for possession of drugs and possession of illicit cigarettes.

The Sedibeng District Task Team arrested four male suspects for possession of drugs and possession of illicit cigarettes at Evaton North on 20 May 2022.

Police operationalized information received from the community and proceeded to various identified residential premises in Evaton North Informal Settlement where drugs and illicit cigarettes were reportedly being sold to the local communities.

Upon arrival, Police found four men at different residential premises in Evaton North where upon a search, police recovered drugs to with an estimated street value of R25, 000.00 and the arrest of a 42-year-old suspect on a charge of possession of drugs.

In separate incidents, police arrested a 30-year-old male for possession of drugs with an estimated street value of R3 000-00.

The third suspect, aged 32, was also arrested for possession of drugs valued R52 000-00.

Whilst the fourth suspect was arrested for possession of illicit cigarettes.

The Sedibeng District Commissioner, Major General Zodwa Ettie Molefe highly applauded the commitment of the community to remove drug dealers as well as limiting the escalation of drugs in the community, especially amongst the youth.

She further thanked the Sedibeng District Task Team for their swift action that has led to the apprehension of suspects and the recovery of drugs and illicit cigarettes.

She also further encouraged community to come forward with information about criminal activities within their residential areas so that Police can investigate and apprehend the perpetrators.

The arrested suspects will appear in the Sebokeng Magistrate’s Court soon.
