Police probe death of a two-year-old girl in Lawley

Police are investigating the circumstances that have led to the death of a two-year-old girl in Lawley, south of Johannesburg on Friday 26 March 2021. The child died a day after consuming an unknown substance that she was allegedly given by her father. Police are searching for a 40-year-old father who has since disappeared.

It is reported that on Thursday, 25 March 2021 the deceased went with both her parents to the bushes to collect firewood where her father gave her something to eat.

The mother went back home with the child leaving the father behind. It is further reported that the following morning the mother realised that the child was not breathing and foam coming from her mouth.

The child was certified dead. A post mortem and toxicology test will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.

A search is underway for the father and police are appealing to anyone who may have information that can help in the investigation to please call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.
