Police arrested four men and recovered two unlicensed firearms and ammunition at corner Old Vereeniging (R82) and Swartkoppies Roads near Kibler Park on Tuesday, 16 October 2018, at approximately 10:30.

The suspects are believed to be behind the robberies committed in Johannesburg South.

Police members acted swiftly upon information received and stopped a white minibus with four occupants. Upon approaching the vehicle, the passengers opened fire at the police and the police retaliated. All four suspects were arrested without any injuries and none of the police officers were injured.

Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the firearms was taken from a house robbery that took place at a plot in Eikenhof recently. Investigation is underway to determine if the suspects can be linked to any other crimes.

The suspects will be charged with attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and conspiracy to commit robbery.

They will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
