Police continue to recover unlicensed firearms, Diepsloot

Proliferation of unlicensed firearms among some residents of Diepsloot is becoming a serious cause for concern for the police. On 20 February 2018, a man was arrested in ext 1 following a tip off from an informant.

Constable George Senona, who is stationed at Diepsloot SAPS, followed on a tip off and proceeded to the place where the suspect was spotted possessing a firearm. Upon arrival he searched the suspect and found a firearm in his possession, of which he failed to produce a valid licence for.

The suspect will be appearing at the Randburg Magistrates court on Friday.

Last year alone, more than five residents were arrested by Diepsloot SAPS for possession of unlicensed firearms.

This blatant criminality cannot be allowed to continue unabated in our community. Thus far, we appreciate all the useful information from our informants in assisting the police to bring these perpetrators to book.

These unlicensed firearms in the hands of unscrupulous criminals end up being used to commit heinous crimes; therefore, we urge members of the community to inform the police of anyone suspected to be in possession of unlicensed firearm.

Anyone with such information can contact our crime stop number and remain anonymous on 0860 10111 or SMS crime line number 3211.
