Police on Tuesday said they had arrested a woman who was found in possession of a BMW X5 vehicle hijacked during a robbery at a business in Langlaagte.
“In Randfontein police were following up information of a stolen vehicle and went to Beachwood Complex in Green Hills. A BMW X5 fitted with false registration plates was found parked at the complex,” Spokeperson for Gauteng Province, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini.
“Police confronted the owner of the complex, a woman, and arrested her for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. On further investigation it was established that the vehicle was stolen during a business robbery at Langlaagte.”
The BMW and two other cars were stolen at Beras Motors on the 17 August 2016, where owner was confronted by armed people posing as potential clients.
“After he was pointed with firearms, the suspects robbed him of his cellphone and keys of three vehicles. They drove away with the vehicles including a Mercedes Benz and BMW M3,” said Dlamini.
He said investigations were under way to recover the stolen vehicles and to arrest the thieves.
Meanwhile police in Gauteng seized six firearms and arrested seven suspects, one of them after a shootout.
“Six suspects are due to appear in Various Magistrate Court on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms while a seventh suspect is under guard at the hospital after he was shot and wounded following an armed robbery at the Johannesburg Central Business District,” said Dlamini.
The firearms including four pistols and two revolvers were seized during routine crime prevention operations in Hillbrow, Daveyton, Orange Farms, Orlando and Moroka.
Six suspects were arrested and will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearms. Dlamini said further investigation were continuing to establish if these firearms can be linked to any crimes.
“In another incident, members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad responded to an armed robbery at Sauer and Kerk Street, Johannesburg. They were alerted by the CCTV camera centre and confronted two suspects,” said Dlamini.
“As the suspects started to flee from the scene, one of the suspects was shot in the leg and another arrested. Police seized a toy pistol. The injured suspect is under police guard at the hospital. A case of armed robbery is being investigated.
