Authorities are urging anyone with information about the murder of 14-year-old Likhona Fose to come forward after her mutilated body was discovered in Durban Deep, Roodepoort, on Tuesday.
The grim discovery was made by a passerby who alerted police after spotting the teenager’s remains in an open veld, lying beneath shrubs. Fose had been reported missing last Saturday, with her disappearance culminating in the tragic find.
At this stage, police say no suspects have been identified, but investigations are underway. Law enforcement has mobilized resources to track down those responsible for what they describe as a “heinous attack.”
“We are calling on anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact us immediately,” a police spokesperson said.
Authorities have encouraged tip-offs to be submitted via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or anonymously through the MySAPS app, available for download on smartphones.
The community has been left in shock by the brutal killing, with many demanding justice for the young victim. Police have assured the public that every effort is being made to ensure those responsible are apprehended and brought to justice.
Updates will follow as the investigation progresses.
